| Audi A5 Coupe World Premiere |
| Melbourne International Motor Show, March 6, 2007 |
Rocket Science Dept. designed and directed the unveiling of Germany’s new star car at the Melbourne International Motor Show, staged to coincide with the unveiling of the same car at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.
The brief involved somehow covering the car on the Audi stand until the appropriate moment arrived in Geneva and then revealing it in a powerful and theatrical way befitting it’s position as an elite performance vehicle.

The concept of a flying box, built to look like a high tech packing crate was approved and constructed from alloy framework and alloy sheet cladding. The box was placed on the stand for the first few days of the Motor Show with plasma screens mounted on it counting down to the reveal time.
Overnight before the unveiling the box was moved to centre position on the stand and the vehicle placed inside. Overhead chain motors were rigged to lift the 465kg box and pyrotechnics attached and tested.
All the construction joins and the base of the structure were sealed with compressed foam creating an air tight cavity. A hatch built into the design was then used to pump smoke into the boxes interior – adding to the theatrics as the box was raised overhead during the reveal sequence.
